A game that came out sooner than it should haveĪll in all, IGI 2: Covert Strike could have used a bit more development time, since it gambled too much on its previous performance and forgot to raise itself to the same quality level. The guns may look a bit better, but there are no significant improvements in this regard either, which is a real same, since there are a few nice additions to the overall arsenal. In addition, although the graphic engine has been slightly improved, the lack of ambition can be clearly observed when it comes to the environment and the surrounding landscapes. Moreover, the multiplayer mode leaves no room for any stealth tactics, mostly because there aren't too many buildings or structures that can be used to organize ambushes. Unlike in the original game, this second title suffers from several flaws when it comes to gameplay mechanics, since it certainly does not feature the same amount of suspense and well-thought missions. Unfortunately, the level designed could have used some more work, since the environments are rather lacking in detail and the maps are somewhat too open for any meaningful confrontations. Naturally, at the center of every scenario lies a secret airbase, harbor or various other facility, which Jones must investigate and clear of any terrorists that have established their base of operation on government ground.Īs such, the multiplayer maps are also centered around this kind of locations, featuring mostly abandoned facilities and secret bases in the middle of nowhere, with no sign of civilization around. Weapons also feature realistic effects like emitting smoke from gun barrels and ejecting empty bullet cases. The weapons were closely modeled on their real life counterparts with regard to appearance and performance characteristics. The game is notable for the large variety of different weapons that are on offer, from assault rifles to RPGs. Later missions take the player to environments such as Libya and China, with the ultimate aim of preventing the world’s destruction. The first mission requires Jones to infiltrate a Russian military base, gather information on the activities taking place there, and make off with the secret EMP technology currently under development. The player takes on the role of former SAS soldier David Jones, who now is an operative for the Institute of Geotactical Intelligence (IGI).
